I was online at 6:30PM today during an electrical storm when I heard a loud pop near my UPS!
I have a Cyberpower UPS that uses a USB cable to interface with software provided by the
manufacturer and this software lost communication with the UPS. I isolated this to a fried
USB hub. In addition, my HP Envy all-in-one is toast! I believe that this surge was on the
power line because my DSL modem and wireless telephone system are alive. Happily, my
home entertainment center was spared!
Does anybody have a theory why the surge was localized to these two fried devices?
I doubt that I'll pursue an insurance claim with Cyberpower.
