Things are really popping around my place!

Have something general to talk about? This is the place.

Things are really popping around my place!

I was online at 6:30PM today during an electrical storm when I heard a loud pop near my UPS!
I have a Cyberpower UPS that uses a USB cable to interface with software provided by the
manufacturer and this software lost communication with the UPS. I isolated this to a fried
USB hub. In addition, my HP Envy all-in-one is toast! I believe that this surge was on the
power line because my DSL modem and wireless telephone system are alive. Happily, my
home entertainment center was spared! :D

Does anybody have a theory why the surge was localized to these two fried devices?
I doubt that I'll pursue an insurance claim with Cyberpower.

Over the years, I’ve had many of my customers PBX’s hit by lightning. Even if it has state of the art protection, if its a big enough Jolt it will jump your protection. You may want to consider having your wiring inspected by a qualified electrician.
