100% survivor benefit

Postby jrevier » Tue Jun 06, 2023 10:51 am

My wife has recently passed away and I had before the PBGC took over the 100% survivor benefit established. Before the PBGC took over if she passed first I was told to contact the pension folks and the amount of money paid out would be increased as they did not have a surving spouse to account for. The PBGC does see that 100% spouse benefit but does not see the way to change it but does not see a way to change it to increase the payout as previously noted.

Have any of you seen this is other cases and could something be done about it?

thanks

Jerry,
You are correct, there should be a 10% bump up. My suggestion would be to contact your local congressional office. This is a federal problem is is the kind of thing that the advocacy section of your congressional office likes to tackle.
