Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield vs Kaiser Permanente?

Postby JohnSwanson » Thu Nov 07, 2019 3:34 pm

For 2019, I have a Kaiser Permanente KP CO Silver 3000/20%/HSA health insurance plan that costs $436.26/mo.
I'm limiting my income so that I get an ACA subsidy which more than offsets my lower income. Although my
income for 2020 will be the same, this policy will cost $538.30/mo next year, which is more than I want to pay!

I shopped for alternatives on ConnectForHealthCo.com and I can purchase an Anthem Silver Pathway X HMO 2000
policy, with a lower deductible than my KP policy, for $437.31/mo (only $1.05 more than what I pay today). If I'm
willing to live with a higher deductible, there's an Anthem Bronze Pathway X HMO 5000 Rx Copay policy for $307.18.

Anthem BCBS is a huge company, so I assume that changing to this insurer is a reasonable strategy. However, KP
has an office about 10 miles from my home, which is very convenient. Is there a disadvantage for me to switch
to Anthem BCBS?

Thanks,
John
